Little Free Library

little-library_webIn 2012, Bob Cheshier began placing Little Free Libraries (LFL) near Cleveland elementary schools to foster a love of reading by bringing books to children who don’t have books in the home.

When Bob passed away in 2013, the Cleveland community wanted to carry on his legacy. Margaret Bernstein, former Plain Dealer columnist, organized a fast-growing movement by partnering with Cleveland Public Library and other literacy-minded organizations and individuals to further the mission.

Today, the LFL is being run by Judy Payne and Judi Kovach. This is my donation, in progress, for the organization.

Mitzvah Project – I.V. Charms

ivcharms2_webFor the last seven years, my daughter Elisa and I have been coordinating the creating and making of shrink film IV charms for kids in hospitals in the Cleveland area, during Fairmount Temple’s Mitzvah Day and in nearby secular and non-secular schools. This helps the hospitalized kids know that they aren’t being forgotten, and that other kids have been where they are.

I started this to help my daughter move forward during a long illness, during which she was in and out of the hospital. She thought the rooms were boring; there was no color at all! And she worried no one would think of her. So, I came up with this idea, and thanks to the donation of the shrink film by Grafix Arts, we have been creating them ever since!
